High School Science Fair Project On Drinking Soda
High School Science Fair Project On The Effect of Drinking Soda on Your Teeth

If you want to be a doctor or dentist, you are probably going to be interested in the science fair project which is aimed towards high school students. Advanced middle school students could also do this science fair project, but because the equipment that is used is not something most people have at home, most high school students will have access to this in their school’s science labs. Therefore this is a very good High School Science Fair Project
The question that you're going to answer is what type of soda (or other beverages) are bad for your teeth. Because you can't actually do this experiment on people because it's unethical to ruin their teeth or subject them to long periods of soda in their mouths, you are going to do this test on limestone pieces. Limestone is the perfect substance, because unlike teeth, which are covered by enamel, limestone is porous which allows the soda access to it quickly.
The equipment that you are going to need for this high school science fair project is: six chunks of limestone, each the same size and the same weight; a scale; five dishes; a microscope; litmus test paper; and five different beverages.

The first step is to make your hypothesis, which beverages do you think are bad for your teeth, and which are not so bad for your teeth? You can choose any five beverages that you want; some recommendations are: cola, diet cola, root beer, orange juice, and water.
The procedures for the high school science fair project are pretty simple. First, measure the weight and size of each limestone chunk, and then put it in a dish. Cover the piece of limestone with one beverage. Repeat this for the rest of the beverages that you have. While you are waiting, you can test the pH level on each beverage and record the results.
Now you are going to wait a week, and then you are going to take the pieces of limestone out from their beverages and place them under the microscope. What can you see? You can compare the surfaces of the limestone to a piece that hasn’t been so immersed in a beverage for week. Write down your observations on a piece of paper.
Wait until a limestone has had a chance to dry out, and then weigh it on the scale. What are the results? Some of the limestone has experienced a loss in weight, while some may have stayed the same. Why is that? Make sure that you record your results on a piece of paper so that you don't forget.
Was your hypothesis right? Which beverages are worse for our teeth, and which have no real harm on them. Because our teeth are coated in enamel, we won't experience as much tooth loss from beverages, but the damage is pretty easy to see.

Science Fair Projects MADE EASY!
Does your child have to do a science fair project soon?
Would you like to give your child some guidance, to make it easier for your child?
You have probably spend quite a while surfing the net for ideas. In spite of the time you’ve spent, you might still be wondering if you have all the necessary information to really help your child.
Here's a checklist to help you find out what all the details are that are involved in a science project:
- Do you know how science fair judges grade projects? Do you know what they look out for?
- Do you know what the rulesare for displaying a project?
- Do you know if it necessary to perform an experiment? (Can you do a project without an experiment?)
- Do you know how many different types of science projects there are?
- Do you know about the many different possibilities. Do you know a systematic way to go about choosing a topic?
- Do you know the differance scientific "Theory" and a "Hypothesis"?
- Do you know what your child can do if an experiment goes wrong?
If you can confidently answer all the questions above, you know all you need to know to provide your child with sound guidance.
If you are unsure about some of the questions, I can offer you a e-book that provides clear and relevant guidelines.
