Easy Science Fair Projects Kids Will Love: Kindergarten & Elementary
Here is another easy project
The Last Minute, Easy Science Fair Project: The Disappearing Shell
Easy Science Fair Projects kids will love, for younger kids, can be difficult to think of and it is often difficult for them to remember to water the plants, take care of the hamster or write down their results. Parents who are looking for science fair projects for their kids who are in kindergarten through grade three are often left doing the science fair project by themselves or prodding their kid to work on it with them.
If you have forgotten about your science fair project and it is due in two days, here is an easy science fair project kids will love to do, that you can do within 24 hours with things that you probably have in your kitchen. You will need a glass, white vinegar, and an egg. Put the egg in the glass, and then fill the glass up with vinegar. What do you think will happen? Help your child to write down what he thinks will happen to the egg after it sits in vinegar for 24 hours
During this 24 hours, make sure to take a couple of looks at the egg and write down what you are seeing. You can also use this time to research eggs. You can find out things like: what are the shells of eggs made of, how is an egg laid, what is the difference between a brown egg and a white egg? If you have time, you may want to do some research on vinegar, finding out what exactly it is and how it is used both in the kitchen for cooking and for cleaning up as well.
After 24 hours of having the vinegar soak the egg, what happened? If you did the experiment right, you should see that the vinegar nearly ate away all of the shell. Why is this?
The reason that they shell is being ruined is because the egg has tiny pores that lets the vinegar get in and eat it away. If you leave the egg in there for a longer period the entire egg shell will dissolve.
Ask your child if he or she can think of any other items that has tiny holes in it that lets things through? If he needs help, you might want to have the child put some lotion onto his hands and see how well his skin absorbs the moisture.
Science fair projects can be stressful for kids and adults. This easy science fair project, kids will love to di, is great because it is short, easy to do, and can be really cool to show off the results.
