Examples of Science Fair Projects: Kindergarten Science Fair Project

Here is another esay project

Spinning Planet Science Fair Projects

Today’s example science fair projects are suitable for Kindergarten, but an adult will have to assist the little ones. This is a very good basic geography lesson, and therefor a very good example of a kindergarten science fair project. For more ideas you may want to have a look at Super Science Fair Projects.

You can compare the earth to a big or rather a giant ball spinning in the darkness in space. The earth gets its light from the sun that is about ninety four million miles away. As the earth orbits around the son it also turns on its own ”axle“ once a day.

We are now going to do a project to demonstrate this action.

First an project to show night and day

This is what you’ll need for this science fair project example:

  • A felt-tipped pen

  • A big plastic ball

  • A piece of thin string

  • Modeling material that is non-hardening

  • A torch

This is what you need to do for this science fair project example:

  1. Stick a shape on the ball to represent the country you live in. The shape does not have to be very accurate.
  2. Now you have to stick the string to the ball with the modeling clay.
  3. Then you have to tie the string to a rail maybe a towel rail or something similar.
  4. The ball must hang freely.
  5. Now you have to shine on the ball with your torch.
  6. Notice that some parts of the ball are in the shadow.
  7. If the country you live in is in the shadow, then it is night in your country. This is when the country (the shape) is facing away from the sun.
  8. If, however your country is facing the sun, the part that the light of your torch is shining on, it is day in your country.
  9. Now keep the torch level and aim it at the middle of your ball.
  10. Slowly turn the ball from left to right.
  11. Now your country (if it was in the dark) will move from the dark to the light halve of the ball.
  12. Now it is day in your country.

This science fair project project illustrates how different countries move from day to night as the sun spins on its own axle

Now for the seasons

What you will need for this science fair project example:

  • Felt-tipped pen

  • Plastic ball

  • Bowl that is just big enough for the ball to fit on the top, for the ball to sit on the top.

  • Your torch again

  • A book or a box that you can put the torch on.

This is what you need to do for this science fair example:

  1. Using the pen, draw a line right around the middle of your ball.
  2. This line will be your Equator.
  3. Now you have to sit the ball on top of your bowl.
  4. Your Equator line must be sloping gently.
  5. Now you have to put your torch on top of the box or books at such a height that it shines just above your Equator.
  6. It shines on the part where the torch (your sun) is above the Equator and that is where it is summer; it represents the part of the earth where there is summer.
  7. The other half has winter; this represents the part of the earth where it is winter.
  8. Now you can shine your torch on the Equator and that will represent the time of the year when it is spring and autumn in the world and night and day is more or less a similar length throughout the world.

Now you have seen a visual representation of day and night and of the different seasons.

As Science Fair Projects need to be done correctly using the proper scientific method, I strongly recommend that you get one of the excellent e-books I recommend, and make sure you do the best Science Fair Project possible! Browse them and decide wich one suits your needs the best. Personally I think "101 Easy Science Projects" are great because it has projects suitable for all the grades. On the other hand if your project is due shortly, you may want to consider "24 Hours Science Projects." Then again, "Science Fair Projects Made Easy" and "Super Science Fair Projects" teaches you all the scientific methods and both have lots of help to ensure you do the best project possibe, so, have a look, I know you'll not be dissappointed.
